Hornets head to NXR NY looking strong as ever By Adam Kopet of DyeStat Fayetteville-Manlius NY continues to impress. The Hornets are set up for dominating performances at NXR New York and at Nike Cross Nationals. While the nine-time national champions still need to qualify for NXN, they easily have the strongest top-five in the country. However, should on of F-M's top five runners falter, several teams could be poised to take advantage. Great Oak CA is best primed to upset the apple cart, but the Wolfpack has yet to run a complete race as a team. It could take a big effort from all seven runners to lift the California powerhouse to the top. Bozeman MT, North Rockland NY and Carmel IN are all battling for the last spot on the podium right now. North Rockland finished second to Fayetteville-Manlius at the New York Class A Championships and went on to win the New York Federation Championships. Both Bozeman and Carmel won their respective regional meets. Carmel does have a question mark with senior Sarah Leinheiser. She has led the team, but has struggled in recent weeks, finishing 21st at the Indiana State Meet and then did not finish at NXR Midwest. Should Leinheiser return to her earlier season form, Carmel could make a big move up the board. The Greyhounds' No. 6 ranking is based on Leinheiser finishing the race at NXN, but not returning to top form. Willmar MN and Southlake Carroll TX move into the top 10 this week after strong regional performances. Keller TX makes a big move after winning the Texas Class 6A State Meet and finishing a close second to Southlake Carroll at NXR South. Mountain Vista CO moves up as well after winning NXR Southwest over Desert Vista AZ. Several teams are making top-30 debuts. Sunset OR enters the rankings at No. 21 after finishing a close third at NXR Northwest. Cardinal Gibbons NC ran its best performance of the season at the North Carolina state meet, entering the rankings at No. 24. Ridge NJ also makes its debut at No. 29 after a strong race at the New Jersey Meet of Champions. New York and California have shown the greatest depth. Each region has five ranked teams. The Midwest, Southwest and Northwest have four ranked teams apiece. The Top 30, 11/24 1. Fayetteville-Manlius NY 2. Great Oak CA 3. Bozeman MT 4. North Rockland NY 5. Carmel IN 6. Edina MN 7.
