National High School Girls Team Rankings - 12/12 Final RankingsPublished by
Mountain Vista Gives Colorado It's Second Straight National Champion; Lone Peak Shines At NXN To Take Second; Buchanan Reverses Order From State Meet And FinishesThird By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Mountain Vista began the year No. 1 and finished that way, too, with a dominating performance last weekend at Nike Cross Nationals in Portland. The addition of Keeghan Edwards to a lineup that brought everybody back was destined for greatness and Mountain Vista delivered with a 75-point performance that was a cut above. Lone Peak of Utah may have been fourth in the Southwest regional and anxious about receiving an at-large bid, but the was fantastic in the rain and mud at Glendoveer Golf Course and finished second with 107 points. Another example of Southwest power. The top three, including leader Maya Bybee, are due to return next year. Buchanan's front four were welded together, finishing within four seconds of one another. The total spread on five scorers was 18.3 seconds. And the team's top two, Gaby Guttierez and Brooklyn Buckley, are freshmen. The final team rankings are really set by the order of finish at NXN. It's the end of season goal. Where there were gaps in the final team scoring, I folded in some teams that were NXN worthy but were not chosen or could not advance to the national meet. A team like Chaparral of Colorado, fifth in the Southwest region, had no way to move forward. But the team's quality, and the success of the four in front at NXN (all in the top eight) lends a valid argument for its spot on the final list. A total of seven Southwest teams made the final 30, including five from Colorado. California also has five on the list. Top 30 Final Rankings More news |
