Northwest Region Girls Early Season Rankings 2025Published by
Audrey Orme, Lucy Spiess Lead The Way For Top-Ranked Boise By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Girls NXR Northwest Preview When the Northwest regional switches locations in November, from Boise to Spokane, there probably won't be an overwhelming consensus over who will earn the automatic berths for Nike Cross Nationals. Although there are a handful of national caliber individuals, there don't appear to be any top tier girls teams in the Northwest. Last year at NXN, Northwest representatives Rocky Mountain ID and Lincoln OR finished 18th and 20th, respectively. Boise ID gets the early nod after a dominant performance at the Jimmy Driscoll Invitational and Crater OR showed off a strong lineup in its first outing at the Wilsonville Night Meet. Boise's Audrey Orme has two early season wins and was the Idaho 6A runner-up last year. The Brave has enough depth to warrant the No. 1 spot. Crater's Brynn Davenport leads a motivated group that wants to grab a share of the spotlight that the boys program has enjoyed in recent years. Summit OR, Rocky Mountain ID, Sehome WA and 11-time national qualifier Jesuit are among the teams to watch and all have reason to believe. After all, Rocky Mountain made an unexpected late-season push to win last year's regional title. Individually, juniors Sophia Rodriguez of Mercer Island WA and Ellery Lincoln of Lincoln OR, both members of the Nike Elite program, are early favorites to contend for the regional title that Chloe Huyler of Lakerige OR won last year. Senior Latham West of Bonney Lake WA, senior Cassidy Armstrong of Ballard WA, senior Nelida Dalgas of North Salem OR, junior Maddie Carney of Caldera OR and senior Elyse Hendriksen of Lincoln are among the potential individual qualifiers. A newcomer to keep an eye on in Montana is freshman Addison Kegel of Billings Central Catholic. 1. Boise ID. Seniors Audrey Orme and Lucy Spiess went 1-2 for Boise at the recent Jimmy Driscoll Invitational and lead the charge for the Brave, who last qualified for NXN in 2018. Freshman Isla Remington, senior Reese Kindig and juniors Rosa Wilper, Natalie Carlson and Belen Hoobing give Boise the firepower necessary to prevail in the Northwest. 2. Crater OR. Junior Brynn Davenport led the Comets to an impressive showing at the Wilsonville Night Meet, where five girls ran 11 minutes or faster for 3,000 meters. Sophomore Mari Dunlap, senior Hannah Pygman and juniors Haddie Barsalou and Grace Havniear aim to keep pace with the boys and make a push for a berth to NXN. If senior Reese Garnica is able to return from an injury it could give the team a late-season boost. 3. Summit OR. The Storm finished fourth at NXR Northwest last year, continuing its tradition of high placings at the regional meet. Five of the seven who raced for the team are eligible to return. Senior trio Sophia Capozzi, Eva Dicharry and Skye Knox should lead the way this fall. Sophomores Abigail Carpenter and Cassidy Carmichael, junior Leighton Allen add depth and quality to the lineup. 4. Rocky Mountain ID. The Grizzlies return four from the team that dominated NXR Northwest last year and placed 18th at the national meet. Senior Hallie Heemeyer is one of the top runners in Idaho this fall and finished 69th at NXN. She leads this year's team and is joined by junior Brooke Thompson and sophomores Makelle Carlson and Eve Archibald. The team will need a bit more depth to make a push for another NXN berth and won't have the luxury of racing the regional on their home course. 5. Sehome WA. The Washington Class 2A champions bring back individual champion Lil Desler, a junior, and sophomore Sloane Clines, who was the top runner at the team's recent time trial. Junior Samantha Knipp and sophomore Kjirsten Ludeman make this team solid through four. It will be interesting to see how the 2A champs stack up against Washington's biggest schools and perhaps stake a claim as the best in the state. WATCHLIST More news |
