ASICS Clovis Invitational Shuffles The Deck In California, Westfield On The Rise In New Jersey, Niwot CO Climbing In Loaded Southwest By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Another round of big invitational meets, including Great American, Chile Pepper, Desert Twilight, Nike XC Town Twilight, Clovis, Hole in the Wall, McQuaid and the New Jersey Shore Coaches Invitational, to name some of them, have reshaped this week's Top 30. But the top five remain the same. Herriman and American Fork competed in separate races in the Utah divisional meets Tuesday and both ran impressive. Using the results of races that happened 40 minutes apart on the same course, Herriman would have beaten American Fork by two points if they had gone head to head. The Utah High School Activities Association 6A state championships Oct. 24 should be epic. Christian Brothers NJ (Shore Coaches), Belen Jesuit FL (Great American) and Southlake Carroll TX (Nike South) didn't budge from the top five and all three of those teams are strong enough to be legitimate podium contenders at the end of the season. CBA will be a big favorite to win the Eastern States title at the Manhattan Invitational this weekend at Van Cortlandt Park in New York City. The ASICS Clovis Invitational shook things up a bit in California, where Dana Hills beat Great Oak, 124 to 129, and preseason favorite Ventura slid to sixth. Anthony Fast Horse and Co. have some work to do, but this week the Cougars are clinging to a spot in the top 30. Meanwhile, Oakdale and Mira Costa ran their way onto the list. There are some very good teams that are just off the end of the top 30 that deserve some recognition. Brighton MI won the Portage Invitational, Dowling Catholic IA put a complete team effort together at Fort Dodge and Lone Peak of Utah slipped out, perhaps momentarily, after rising to No. 13 two weeks ago. One of the week's biggest movers is Westfield NJ, led by Avery Keith and Eamon Mason, moving up to No. 6. The Blue Devils are very strong 1-6, with a 31-second split on that group at Shore Coaches. Crater of Central Point, Ore. will race on Friday at the Rose City Championship in Portland. For now, the Comets are one spot ahead of Northwest rivals Coeur d'Alene ID (No. 10) and Jesuit OR (No. 15). Coeur d'Alene showed resolve last weekend at Hole in the Wall, overcoming a fall early in the race to rally past Jesuit in the final mile. With Rocky Mountain moving into the Top 30 this week, Idaho has two ranked teams. In New York, Fairport put together a strong performance at the McQuaid Invitational that affirms its status as the top team in the state.
