State meet results bring clearer picture
By Adam Kopet of DyeStat
With the majority of state meets completed, the national picture is becoming more clear. In addition to several more state meets this coming weekend there are also three Nike Cross Regional meets. The Northwest, Midwest and Heartland regions all compete, selecting six teams to race in Portland. This week there is another change in the podium positions. Carmel IN leaps up to No. 2 after a strong showing at the Indiana state meet. Fayetteville-Manlius NY remains at No. 1 and Great Oak CA keeps its No. 3 position. Naperville North IL is the big mover, improving nine places up to No. 12 after winning the Illinois 3A state meet over Yorkville IL and Minooka IL. Naperville North averaged 17:20 for 3 miles with a spread of 57 seconds. Other changes to the rankings this week include Summit OR returning to the top 30 after a strong performance at the Oregon 5A meet, led by senior Olivia Brooks. Billings Senior MT, another Northwest team, enters the rankings for the first time this season. The Broncs finished second to Bozeman at the Montana AA state meet, led by sophomore Tiahna Vladic's first place finish. California leads in depth with six teams in the top 30. The Northwest region follows close behind with five teams. New York, the Midwest and the Southwest each have four, however, New York is the only region with three teams in the top 10.
