Top teams hold ground as state meets loom
By Adam Kopet for DyeStat
Despite a strong run at Mt. SAC by Great Oak CA, it was not enough to unseat Fayetteville-Manlius NY for the top spot in this week's rankings. However, while Mt. SAC did help Davis Senior CA, which moves up to No. 9 with a strong second place showing without reigning state champ Fiona O'Keeffe, who is resting up for the championship push in November and December.
Willmar MN returns to the national rankings at No. 20 with a win over No. 27 Marshall MN and the return of their full squad from illness and injury. Keller TX make their first appearance at No. 25 after almost knocking off No. 18 Marcus TX at the UIL 6A Region Meet on Monday.
There are several big state meets this weekend that have national implications. In Colorado, No. 19 Cherry Creek (5A) will at least run on the same course as US#1 Katie Rainsberger and her teammates from No. 30 Air Academy (4A). In Indiana, No. 28 Columbus North will be looking to close in on the dominant squad from No. 6 Carmel. And in Oregon, No. 5 Sunset will be looking to avenge its state meet loss from a year ago.
